Bayard Rustin was a civil rights activist in the 1960’s and 70’s. Criticised and even arrested on account of his sexuality, Rustin was often behind the scenes as an influencer and adviser. He travelled to India to learn techniques of nonviolent civil resistance directly from followers of Gandhi.
